Harvest 2016... Times they are a changin'
In all the eight years that Sarver has called the little hill at Elhanan its home, never have the grapes been pulled from the vineyard so early. Now this can be attributed to many things, but none can be considered more of a factor than the sheer lack of water. Despite seeing more moisture above ground than the previous three vintages, the water problem still lies deep underground. Ground water stores near our vineyard do not recover fully during the winter when faced with such excessive heat and drought. In turn the vines are still experiencing the same drought below the surface if not more than years before. On the positive side, the fruit is lush, unique and concentrated and despite being nearly a month early to harvests in 2011 and prior it is mature and perfect for the picking. Cheers! .
